Loved Red State by the way. Good luck. Stay out of trouble.

What i didn’t expect las night at Bunk was such a tight well-rehearsed band and such a beautiful singing voice. thanks so much for doing it, sometimes it looks to me like a hassle, hauling shit around, you know. anyway, your dedication to expression really shines through. really nice set.

    • little miss nowhere says:

sweet. yeah getting kicked to the curb directly after playing was kind of a bummer. like, where’s my green room with the coke and perrier?

  13. Neil Stach says:

Hey just discovering you on pitchfork. Didn’t know you were from Sioux Falls! I’m still living the dream over here. I’m heading to Pitchfork Music Festival in July and see that you’re going to be there- looking forward to your album and seeing you live

peace and love from Sioux Falls

Hello, saw a Video of your live Performance of Grey ship in Berkeley. Amazing! Is there a Chance to see you playing in Hamburg (germany)?

  15. Kirk says:

Where can I download “Kind Hearted Woman”? Love what I’ve heard so far! I hope you stop in Minneapolis when you go on tour!

  16. Scott B says:

First heard about you from the UK press, somehow before your album has been available here. Finding your songs one at a time have given me a chance to appreciate each one on their own, and I can’t wait for the full album. You’re doing stuff american music needs, don’t stop.

  17. Alan Harris says:

I fucking love your music video for California.

I fucking love you, even though you’re 5 inches taller than me, it’s okay with me, lets get married girl.

  18. Bill Sanford says:

I just listened to California and I have to admit you grabbed me right from the beginning with your opening line. The song rings true with me in a way, as I moved from a small town in Indiana to Philadelphia and seem to be experiencing similar frustrations. That’s probably all old hat to you tho’. Keep doing what your doing. The music is great.

  19. Ta for the interview yesterday, it’s reading well, just transcribing it. I’ll send the links to it & the gushing review when it’s up this weekend.
Sore head & cramps today, doll… too sunny you know?

Listened to your album today: it was amazing. Thank You for putting it out there. Searching for it on vinyl now. Patti Smith would be proud. Keep fuckin’ the world up, and finding the beauty in the darkness (and telling us your tales). Hope you make it Boston, and if you are bored, we run a basement venue and would love to host your talent…maybe get into some trouble.

  27. drex says:

I travel a lot for work and PLMS sounds heavenly at 30K ft in the air. Thanks for the most bewitching release this year…

  28. MekJm says:

Your tunes are amazing, I can’t even tell ya. Kinda think you should come to the northeast for a tour(Toronto, Buffalo, Rochester, Ithica)! I would totally love it! So fantastic.

  29. Tyler Duffy says:

You have stolen my heart miss. Thank you for making music!

  30. Amanda says:

I LOVE-LOVE the album. I hope you can plan a tour stop Raleigh, NC!

HintHint: King’s Barcade is a great venue, plus they are serious about their beer selection. Live music there is always a pleasure. :)

  31. Stuart says:

BUZZMedia’s Stereogum blog included “The Grey Ship” on a compilation in January or February of this year. The final two lines struck me as having the same kind of energy as the Michael Andrews / Gary Jules version of Mad World (from the Donnie Darko soundtrack)(and I mean that as a compliment). Only later did I come to appreciate what was going on in the rest of the song. So I looked forward to the release of Past Life Martyred Saints for a good three months.

One of your mainstream reviewers pointed out that it’s a bit disturbing to find yourself humming the tune to “I wish that every time he touched me left a mark”. It is, but I do.

I’ve listened to the album the way I used to listen to new releases when I was a kid; over and over again. Love it.

  32. bgsbnny says:

hey i’m still listening to the record all the time, i’ve been really getting into it since the release. i’m really excited to see you in cambridge in july. if you need anything (food bar or recreation advice etc.) while in the boston area, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. either way i’ll see you at tt the bear’s, hopefully we can talk for a minute. love your music and recordings.

    Dear Erika,

one question: is this California-Video full digital or is the background real Super 8-projection?

    Like it very much!

  39. Gerrit says:

Your CD is by far one of the best discoveries in the past couple of years music-wise. Just when you get disappointed with the recent lack of quality that new artists bring, there was your CD showing there’s still great music from new talents out there. Hope to see you tour Europe in the near future, your music has been getting excellent reviews from press and music enthousiasts alike here across the Atlantic!

  43. ken says:

Hey, I’m a NYC transplant to Milan and don’t usually write messages (or anyway, not often enough, according to my mom). Just wanted to say that the reviews of yr record piqued my curiosity. One is never sure if things will live up to expectations but in this case, it really did, and more. After 40 years of listening to music, it’s nice to still find something that grabs me and won’t let go of the stereo; you’ve been on constant repeat for the last week or so. I spent today trawling around the internet, looking at videos, downloading (legally! I paid!) the Gowns album and generally being an obsessive fan. It was fun and you seem like a good person.

Anyway, thanks for the music. Come to Milan–the city is not all that but there’s a lot of good wine and I make a mean ragu.

      • ken says:

That’s great! I’ll keep an eye out. I think the Euro promoters are generally more hospitable than in the US but if you need a place to crash, we’ve got two cats and room for 4 (possibly 5) people.

Did anyone catch the “Space” episode of “Off the Air” on Adult Swim last weekend?
    ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZiXctpDJSkI starting about 15 seconds in…)
Whoever thought to pair the second half of “The Grey Ship” with the video of a toy robot blasting into space, followed by skydiving from low earth orbit (entering the atmosphere right at the climax with the 2/3/2/3/2/3/1 timing), was a genius.
And you have a new fan as a result. :)

i think i found you from urbanoutfitters download thing, milkman, and oh my GOD YOURE AWESOME. seriously.
and now knowing if youre from SD, if if you never make it to minneapolis for a show i’ll drive to SD to see your show.
    so yeah, love ya! haha

  53. Hey, I’m just chiming in with everyone else about how much I love the album. And I do love it, so much so that I ranked it as my favorite album of the year in list I wrote for my university paper. Erica I saw U at the tote in Collingwood last weekend . Fantastic gig. I feel like I have seen and heard something as exciting as it must have been to C Nirvana at an early gig with only 150 people. And the good folk at MOJO got it wrong saying “Grey Ships” is the standout track cos really the are very few songs in the history of music as good as “California” It is sonic and brilliant. Thank you so much for your vision . Love U H

  57. Iva says:

    Hi Erika,

I came to listen to your music after having read that you’d collaborate with my favourite musician if you could and re-posted that news bit to my website. People left a lot of mean comments, thinking it was something said by a random mainstream pop artist and that got me curious to check out bnoth of your releases. I loved both of them a lot! :)

Too bad not many avant-garde artists come to southeastern Europe, so…to all of these people who commented before me: please, do take videos at the shows, for the rest of us who can’t make it.

  60. Mike says:

Great show last night in Allston. One hit me up again some time.

  61. Arvi James says:

I just felt compelled to say something here.

I had the pleasure of seeing you perform live in Melbourne when you supported Yuck at the East Brunswick Club back in February, having not heard any of your tracks I wanted to get to the venue early so that I could catch some of these lo fi/hi fi sounds that I had read about.

The structure of the songs, the concept of the sound scape and the lyrical content just blew me away. I bought your album straight after and have been spinning it since, the raw emotion gets me every time and you know it’s great album to meditate to, it really takes me to another place. I consider “Marked” to be one of the best love song written since George Harrison’s “Something” back in 1969.

When you’re next back in Australia I would love to buy you a drink and just talk about music with you!

Until then, thank you, I’ll keep listening.

  62. Nonnon says:

    Hi Erica,

Yes i must concur with everyone here, you are a star. I saw ‘California’ saturday night on Rage, programmed by Wild Flag ladies. Never heard you before. I have to say it grabbed me straight away. It’s bold and dark. There’s little jolting surprises right through that song and your rhythm and movement in the video performance are beautiful. I like you very much. Thankyou.

  63. Ebeth says:

I wanna see you, I am lonely and I <3 you. **listens all day all night forever and always amen the end**

    Greetings
Ps: can you smell the neu smell? ;-)

  65. forest says:

Your last song at bonnaroo really touched me deep. Keep telling the truth.

  66. Cheyn says:

To put it simply, your shit is fantastic!

(By which I mean musical output and not actual turds)

I love the clash between lo and hi-fi on PLMS, I loved your show at Bonnaroo, and I love your honesty…your lyrics take some huge brass South Dakotan balls to sing

  67. Dylan Moss says:

    Hey Erika!
I’ve been meaning to get around to telling you this, but I’m pretty lazy and I don’t use the internet very often. Anyway, your “Kind Hearted Woman” cover inspired me to do something different for my (high school) Senior Year Final project. The assignment was to create a piece of work in almost any medium reflecting how we have grown as a writer in the past four years. Drawing from your charted-out lines and shapes score for Kind Hearted Woman, I wrote down all my grades on papers from my first one freshman year to my last one senior year, and I crafted a song based on the fact that my freshman year grades were shit and my senior year grades were above par. I got an A! I just thought that you might like to know that you’re inspiring kids to go above and beyond the limits of their own imaginations. Keep doing things differently, and kids like me will be inspired to do things differently as well. Thank you!

  68. James says:

Excuse me, can you come to Australia

  69. Ok I see that you’ve already been, but that’s ok. I just happened to come across your music on itunes

  70. Ian Anderson says:
